Burano is an island north of the lagoon of Venice, Italy. It is known for its lace and canals lined with brightly colored houses. Burano is located north of the Venice lagoon, northeast of Murano and near Torcello and Mazzorbo (to which it is connected by a bridge).
Burano is composed of four islets (San Mauro, Giudecca, San Martino, Terranova) separated by three channels, the rio Pontinello, the Rio Zuecca (or Giudecca) and the Rio Terranova. Similar to Venice, Burano is divided into six districts (sestieri).
Despite its 3,000 inhabitants, Burano is a simple town in Venice, unlike Torcello or Murano, which bear the title of city. © Photo of Emmanuel Buchot
