Siena is an Italian city, capital of the province of the same name, in the region of Tuscany. It has 53,900 inhabitants in 2017.
The city is famous for its artistic heritage and for the Palio delle Contrade race, often abbreviated as Palio, a spectacular horse race that sees the city's contrades (parishes and neighborhoods) face each other twice a year, on July 2 and August 16th. It is included in the list of World Heritage established by UNESCO. Siena lies at the center of a hilly area, between the valleys of Arbia (it) in the south, Merse (it) in the south-west and Elsa in the north, with the hills of Chianti in the north-west. east, Montagnola Senese to the west and Crete senesi to the southeast.
