Bremen was founded by Charlemagne in the 8th century. The architectural heritage is splendid. You will find photos of the historic center called Sögestrasse which is the main street of the city. You will see beautiful houses dating from the 17th century. You continue your journey with the very large and beautiful flower market, city hall, which like Hamburg is a marvel. But the city of Bremen are also arcades, medieval streets and historical monuments If Bremen was destroyed during the 2nd World War, like many other German cities, the city has retained a true historical center and soul. If you wish you can also find tips for preparing your trip or weekend in Bremen - where to go? what budget? What to see? Good trip to Bremen in northern Germany.

Bremen is a Hanseatic city of 550,000 inhabitants in North West Germany. It is a port city located along the Weser River, about 60 kilometers south of its estuary in the North Sea. Bremen is one of the two enclave towns in Lower Saxony's Land of Bremen (official name: Freie Hansestadt Bremen, ie "Free Hanseatic City of Bremen"), which recalls the accession of The city of Hanseatic League, the other being Bremerhaven In 2005, the population of the city was estimated at 545,983 inhabitants, the metropolitan area of Bremen having a population of 1,184,407 inhabitants.

Bremen, one of the main cities of the Hanseatic, has been since the middle of the Middle Ages an important port, located on the Weser where various goods passed between England, Flanders, Denmark and Russia. Wheat, barley, wine, oil and furs were the most common commodities. It is now the second largest German port in terms of tonnage after Hamburg, but also an industrial city with shipbuilding (Lürssen, Abeking & Rasmussen), automobile (Mercedes-Benz), aeronautics with AIRBUS group, iron and steel industry with ArcelorMittal, the agribusiness (Kellogg's German headquarters, Kraft Foods), and the industrial brewery with a brand of lager pils distributed around the world: Beck's. Finally, Bremen is connected nationally and internationally thanks to its central station (Hauptbahnhof) and its airport. © Pictures of Emmanuel Buchot
