Bologna is a great city. With its 350,000 inhabitants, Bologna is a city of human scale. The historic center is a real treasure. You will find photos of the Town Hall, the fountain of Neptune, the Basilica of San Petronio and the famous towers that dominate the city of Bologna. The university area is also worth a visit. Finally, I invite you to come at the Bologna Children's Carnival in February. The caranval Bologna is genuine and simple. Good visit and good trip pictures in northern Italy.
Bologna is an Italian city located in the north-east of the country, between the Po and the Apennines. It is the capital of the region of Emilia-Romagna (Po Valley) and the province of the same name and one of the main cities of Italy. Bologna has about 390,000 inhabitants (the Bolognese) and its urban area has 1,005,000 inhabitants.
It is considered the seat of the oldest university in the western world since it was founded in 10883. More than 900 years after its founding, the university is still the heart of the city today since its 100,000 students constitute a quarter of its population.
This cultural influence and its university have earned it the nickname of the Dotta (the scholar). The city also has other nicknames such as Rossa (red), in reference to its terracotta tiles and also for its political left communist soul, and Grassa (fat) for its excellent cuisine.
The Bolognese sauce (ragù alla bolognese in Italian) is a recipe from the region. Each spring, Bologna hosts an internationally renowned children's book fair, Bologna Book Fair (La Fiera del Libro per Ragazzi). © Imagens Emmanuel Buchot
