The department of Seine Maritime located in Normandy has a rich and unique history. You will discover old traditional half-timbered houses like here in Rouen. Some are decrepit and give a beautiful cachet to the places. Others (most) are renovated and are superb. You also visit in Normandy old villages such as Lyons la orêt or Bec Hellouin.
Street of Faulx in Rouen
The beautiful Rue des Faulx is located along the Saint Ouen Abbey in Rouen. It borders the beautiful abbey church of flamboyant Gothic style. The houses are very old and some date back to the end of the Middle Ages. They alternate between half-timbered inhabitants and others made of stones. From this street, you will take passages that will lead you to the superb Eau de Robec street.
Timber-framed house in Rouen
The old town of Rouen extends on the right bank of the Seine. You will discover old traditional timbered houses and restored. They are colored, 3 or 4 storeys high. You can start your visit of the city from the abbey Saint Ouen and the town hall. This historic center is unique in France.
Visit Rouen - the old streets
Normandy and more particularly the Seine Maritime is a region superb region. Rouen, prefecture of the Seine Maritime is imperative to visit. You will walk in a unique historical center: many half-timbered houses, a splendid Notre Dame cathedral in a beautiful Gothic style, traditional streets lined with colorful buildings.
